What was your favorite day of your Tindership experience?

My favorite day of my internship was the hackathon. I worked with my partner, Lydia, throughout the summer on an idea to pitch to the company. You could feel the excitement as we presented it. This was a revolutionary feature for Tinder because members would be able to chat before matching. About three years after this hackathon, my team shipped Fast Chat, a feature based on my intern hackathon project.

What’s different about a Tindership?

The people you work with are truly incredible. I learned so much from my mentor and my team.

Where are you now?

I’m an engineering manager on the Z Team. I joined Tinder full-time as a backend engineer in June 2018, and I’ve been with this team since then. We’ve shipped Swipe Night, Explore, and Festival Mode.

What was the best part of your Tindership experience?

Even though my internship was remote, I could still form friendships and communicate with others as my authentic self. I still talk to the people from my intern class.

What’s different about a Tindership?

I could pick the projects I wanted to work on and ultimately own them. Also, because Tinder is a smaller company, I felt like my work and opinions were heard.

Where are you now?

I am currently an IC2 on the Monitoring, Incident, Threat, and Response team, where I own and manage a variety of tools and projects.

What’s different about a Tindership position?

I thought I would be shadowing the majority of the internship, but I was so fortunate to be given real projects to work on from design to implementation. I genuinely felt the support and connection from my manager, team, and others I met along the way.

What did you learn?

Change is the only constant—and it matters how you react to it. It’s important to be flexible and open. I take these moments as opportunities to develop my skills and adapt.
